Yacht Survey Preparation
For an efficient survey, the attending Surveyor needs adequate access to all areas that need to be inspected. Pre-survey preparation of the yacht by the yacht Owner or the person in charge will significantly enhance the quality of the survey. Getting your yacht ready for survey will save valuable time and extra expenses.
The below is a list with our requirements that must be fulfilled prior to attendance and during the survey:
- Full contact details of the client and the person in charge should be provided.
- Permission to enter the marina or shipyard and the yacht, permission to remove anti-fouling paint patches, and permission to conduct sea trial (if agreed and is part of the survey scope) should be granted.
- For yachts that are on hard standing, the area around the hull should be clean and clear and a safe ladder to be provided to access the yacht. Furthermore, the yacht’s underwater areas should be clean of marine growth.
- The yacht’s keys should be provided and all compartments, including lockers, should be dry, clean and accessible. Areas should be clear of owners’ possessions. This does not apply to standard yacht equipment.
- The winter cover should be removed.
- Power supply system (both AC and DC) is needed to test the relevant systems and equipment.
- Yacht’s manuals, drawings & makers certificates for the machinery and equipment should be available either in soft copy (pdf files) or in hard copy on board and accessible.
- Previous service and maintenance records should be available.
- All Class, Flag & Insurance documents and certificates should be available either in soft copy (pdf files) or in hard copy on board and accessible.
- All trading certificates (safety equipment records, medical records, logbooks etc.), should be available either in soft copy (pdf files) or in hard copy on board and accessible.
- The client, or the responsible person appointed by the Owner, should be in charge at sea trial and operating yachts systems. The Skipper and any additional crew might be required for carrying out the sea trials on larger sailing yachts, should be arranged by the boat owner/person in charge.
